Sometimes I hate bands...

I went to a show with a friend last night on the Lower East Side (or the "LES") at this place called Sin-e. Now we got there kind of late and missed most of the first band, and they were called Tall Hands. I really liked them, they had a fun sound and they were definitely having a good time onstage which makes me want to watch them. The next band I saw was the one my friend was there to see. I did like their sound, but I couldn't really get into the show with their awkward stage presence and the constant white noise behind them. Plus I could barely hear the lyrics....But when we left, my friend talked about how much he loved the show. My friend raved so much about them I thought I was missing something! I wish I was a music geek because I would probably get more out of it, but I can only go off of how I feel at that moment of listening to the band and If I liked being there.
When I lived in Seattle I ended up going to a lot of indie shows and I'm hard pressed to say I enjoyed a lot of what I was hearing. I think it's about time in my life where I stopped going to shows that I feel like I'm getting my teeth pulled and that I'm supposed to be "enjoying" myself. I promised myself when I moved here I was not going to be the same guy that definitely wasn't happy with anything in Seattle. I think I will have to put a stop to this and start going to see music I like.
Though I will have to search for that Tall Hands group. Whenever there is anyone black playing indie rock I will support them.
